how i wear it: elise’s weekend getaway duster

Today, Elise (@redbeanrambling) is joining us to share her experience wearing the linen-blend duster she crafted using the Weekend Getaway Blouse + Dress pattern. It didn’t take long for me to fall in love with Liesl’s summer coat adaptation of this pattern, which instantly became a must-have in my sewing lineup for adding a splash of color to my transitional wardrobe. The duster’s elegant details, such as the center pleat at the back neckline and the natural lapel openings at the front, transform a straightforward design into something truly eye-catching. For my version, I picked a vibrant paprika-colored linen-rayon blend from my nearby JOANN store. This fabric choice perfectly matched the chic vibe I wanted to achieve. I absolutely adore pairing this duster with playful dresses featuring interesting patterns, especially those that hit just below its hemline. A pair of sandals or low boots, along with some jewelry, completes the look, making it ideal for everything from casual strolls through the neighborhood to more formal outings like dinners or cocktail hours. Even when paired with casual outfits like a t-shirt and jeans, this duster adds an extra touch of sophistication. Its sleeve length is just right for showing off my favorite cuff bracelets, while the open front ensures my necklaces can take center stage. Following Liesl’s excellent blog post on creating the summer coat version of this pattern, I found both the dress and duster instructions straightforward and comprehensive. As someone who’s 5’4” with measurements of 33-29-38, I constructed a size 4 without any adjustments. While I serged most of the seams for durability, I opted for French seams on the side seams since they might occasionally peek out. You never know when you’ll need to move quickly—imagine the duster billowing behind you like a regal cape! To enhance functionality, I added a small fabric loop inside the neckline for easy hanging. The Weekend Getaway duster is versatile enough for both warmer and cooler transitional weather. It’s a fantastic way to inject some flair into your handmade wardrobe. Trust me—you’ll appreciate both Liesl’s brilliant pattern and your own creativity once you’ve finished yours. (Ads by Google) Related Posts: [Insert Related Posts Section]
