US Leather Export Sales Record

According to figures from the US Department of Agriculture, as of the week of July 14, sales volume has even hit a record (or at least reported sales).

As of July 14, 2011, U.S. export sales of raw hides and furs this week: Net sales of 822,700 pieces (in 2011 delivery), which have risen significantly from last week, setting an annual sales high, compared to the previous four-week average. The level rose by 95%. The total volume of leather exports reached 820,700, mainly selling China (445,800), South Korea (153,600), Taiwan (83,100), Vietnam (57,400) and Mexico (27, 200). According to reports, the export volume was reduced to Taiwan (2,400).

Shipments of 514,800 were up 29% from the previous week but were up 16% from the prior 4-week average. It mainly sells China (307,900), South Korea (71,200), Taiwan (47,900), Vietnam (34,900) and Mexico (20,000).

In 2011, the net sales volume of wet blue skins was 56,200, mainly sold in China (16,900 non-split and 200 grain splits), Mexico (13,100 grain splits and 1, 900 unsplit skins), Thailand (13,400 unsplit skins) and Korea (2,400 grain splits and 1,700 unsplit skins). Reductions are reported from the Dominican Republic (2,800 unsplit skins).

Shipments of 139,000 hides were sold mainly to China (62,800 non-split and 10,700 grain splits), Vietnam (17,100 non-split), and Mexico (14) , 500 grain splits and 1,700 unsplit skins) and Thailand (6,700 unsplit skins and 3,600 grain splits).

Net sales of dissected skins amounted to 264,500 pounds, mainly to South Korea (224,200 pounds), Italy (38,200 pounds) and Vietnam (2,100 pounds).
