Pakistani Karzai Textile City Seeks Manufacturers to Enter

Pakistan’s first textile city in Karachi is seeking a presence in the factory, setting up a factory in the city which invested 3.6 billion rupees ($42 million).

Pakistani textile industry’s Federal Minister Makdhoom Shahabuddin stated at the opening ceremony that the textile city is a benchmark industrial zone and is also the key to the growth of Pakistan’s textile industry.

Zaheer AHussain, chief executive of Pakistan Textile City, said that he will soon start selling products in the area in mid-July this year. The 1,250-acre textile city is a public-privately-owned industrial zone with a focus on textile and garment manufacturing. Facilities include power plants, supply water, sewage treatment plants, natural gas, workers' dormitories, transportation systems, and training facilities.

This textile city is located in Qasim, approximately 25 miles outside Karachi. Palestine has planned a textile city, which is one of them. The Other two are located in Lahore and Faisalabad.

This project is based on the 5-year textile strategy (2009-14) and hopes to increase exports of textiles and garments to US$25 billion in 2015.
