Little knowledge is not all polyester fiber is called polyester

Polyester generally refers to a macromolecular compound obtained by polycondensation of a dibasic acid and a glycol, and includes all fibers composed of linear macromolecules containing more than 85% of terephthalic acid glycol esters in the molecular chain.

There are many varieties of polyester fibers, and three types are given in GB/T4146.1-2009, which are polyethylene terephthalate (PET) fibers, polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) fibers, and Polypropylene terephthalate (PTT) fibers. Among them, PET fiber in China's trade name is polyester, visible, polyester is only a kind of polyester fiber. Due to its easy availability of raw materials and excellent performance, polyester has become the largest and most widely used fiber in chemical fiber production. It is precisely because of this that people are mistakenly used to thinking that polyester fiber is polyester, but in recent years, With the improvement of fiber production technology, two new members of PBT and PTT have been added to polyester fiber.

PTT fiber combines the characteristics of polyester and nylon. It is easy to wash and dry, has good elastic recovery, and has good wear resistance and stretch recovery. It is more suitable for making composite fibers, elastic fabrics, carpets and other materials. In addition to the advantages of polyester fiber, PBT fiber also has better dyeing performance. It has become one of the differentiated fibers with promising development in the field of synthetic fibers. In addition, it has good aging resistance, chemical resistance and heat resistance. Sex, which makes it widely used in engineering plastics, home appliances and other fields. The appearance of these two types of new polyester fibers not only broke the monopoly of the polyester fibers, but may even replace them within a certain range.

With the advent of PTT fibers and PBT fibers, polyester fibers are no longer exclusive to polyester. However, in practical tests, since these three kinds of fibers are difficult to be distinguished by common methods, in theory, identification by infrared spectroscopy and melting point method is possible, but the identification process is also difficult. Therefore, according to the standard GB/T 4146.1-2009, a "polyester fiber" report will be issued under normal circumstances, only if the client expressly requests it, and the sample can be identified as "polyethylene terephthalate (PET)". Only the testing agency can be called "polyester".
