The ancient and modern name of crystal

Throughout the ages, people's cherished love for crystal has given it a lot of names.

Crystal, the oldest name in China is called water jade, which means water jade, and it is said to be "the ice of the millennium." The poet Wen Tingjun of the Tang Dynasty wrote "The Li Shishi Retreat": "Water jade head white-horned towel, Yaoqin lonely history and light dust." The word "Shuiyu" was first frequently used in "Shan Hai Jing": "The East Three Hundred Miles, the Mountain of the Tang Court... In "Shan Hai Jing", the crystal is also known as Shuibi: "Three hundred miles south, Lushan, no grass, more water and blue", Guo Yu Note: "Yi Shui Yu".

Crystal is also known as the jade. "Furui" contains: "The beautiful stone is like jade, and the water is called the jade." Why is crystal called water essence? "Guang Ya" has a clever solution: "The Elf of Water is also"; Li Shizhen said: "Ying Jie Jingguang, such as the elite of water."

One of the water essences, first seen in the Buddha's book, the later translation of the "Huangming Dingyi", said: "The way it is, the color is like water essence."

The disciples of the Buddha are convinced that the crystal will flash a magical aura, and they can pray for all beings. So the crystal was revered as the Buddha stone. "Talking Garden" said: "Jiazhou Emei Mountain has a bodhisattva stone, which is shaped like a six-sided and sharp head. It is bright and clear, and if it is a mountain, it is like a crystal."

"Small Objects and Different Names" said: "Shui Jing is out of Daqin, a Li is difficult."

Crystallized crystals are like staggered horse teeth, so people call it a horse's calculus. It was first used to grind it into an eye piece, thus giving it the nickname of a spectacles.

Crystal has a general name, but also has a common name. In Guangzhou, the crystal is called Jingyu, also known as the fish brain; in Donghai County, Jiangsu Province, someone discovered that the crystal would be “fired”, so it gave it a common name for the light stone.
